Two decades of excellence: Kalin Tzvetanov reflects on the growth and future of Isystems Group

Jun 13, 2024

Kalin is usually at the forefront and often takes on the role of the face of Isystems Group. Today, we get together to discuss the past 20 years – the things that have brought us to where we are today at Isystems, the values the company has kept for already two decades, why he remembers every single project, and what he believes lies ahead.

You ventured into entrepreneurship at a time when it wasn’t very popular. What made you start Isystems?

At that time, we had a desire to do something different in which we believed. We wanted to do the right things in the right way, no matter the effort required. We didn’t think about the results because we were convinced that success always follows if you do things well.

What are the core values of the company from the beginning that you think have been preserved until today? Have they changed over time?

The path we chose from the beginning was difficult, and traversing it required a lot of dedication, teamwork, and honesty. Without these values as an integral part of our work, we would hardly have been able to upgrade, plan long-term, and be where we are today. Over time, we also learned that if you’re not prepared for difficulties and challenges on the way, it’s better not to start serious ventures. The more you grow, the more challenges and unforeseen situations you encounter, requiring you to take responsibility. If you don’t have the right people with the same mindset beside you, you will surely slip in the wrong direction.

What is the achievement of Isystems that you are most proud of?

For years, we have strived to become recognizable outside of Bulgaria and to prove that in this small country, there are competent professionals who can help various companies from Europe, Asia, and America succeed in their business. We fought against many prejudices about whether we were the right people to whom long-standing businesses could be entrusted. We overcame them and proved that we are among the best at what we do.

Do you manage to balance work and personal life, and what is your strategy?

Everyone finds a way to relieve stress. If you don’t do it, sooner or later the engine slows down and cannot run at the same speed as before. We are not robots, and even when you leave the office, you continue to think about work tasks, solve issues, and even when you sleep, you plan what to say at tomorrow’s meeting. My way is to dive underwater and listen only to the sound of bubbles from the diving regulator.

Which project will you never forget?

Every project over these 20 years is associated with many emotions and hopes, joys, and sometimes tears. I remember almost all of them by name and I don’t think I could forget any single one of them. These that are always coming to mind are the first retail project, the first project for an automotive dealer, the first manufacturing project, and the first project in a new country. Implementing business applications is something alive: you plan it, plant it, water it, and make continuous efforts to keep it alive. If you forget it, it means it brings you negative emotions and you haven’t done well. To this day, our projects from 20 years ago are alive, and we continue to take care of them.

What is the biggest lesson from these 20 years?

Never give up and always have a Plan B.

What are your strongest hopes for the next 20 years?

I believe that technologies will continue to shape our development in the future. Artificial intelligence is already part of our reality. Our striving for automation and saving our most valuable resource – time – turns the world towards outsourcing the thinking to someone else, leaving us humans to take on the role of operators and executors, and at least for now – to make the final decisions. I hope this will push us towards self-awareness and awaken our desire for self-improvement and the development of the remaining 90% of our brain that we currently do not use.

What gives you the strength to keep going?

The added value we provide and the trust we receive from our clients and partners. Also, the responsibility we take when they entrust us with their businesses.

If you had to describe your journey with Isystems in one word or phrase, what would it be?

It’s not about the logo, it’s about the people behind it.
