Pre-trained models facilitate document processing in AI Builder in wave 1 plan

The 2023 release wave 1 plan for Microsoft Power Platform contains hundreds of new features across Power Platform applications including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Pages, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents, and AI Builder. Since 2019, when AI Builder was first released, Microsoft has continued to add new features and capabilities. All new functionalities are planned to be delivered to the market by September 2023.

AI Builder

AI Builder will bring document processing improvements that will include more pre-built model capabilities like contract processing, the ability to identify personal information, and the possibility to extract field types from documents. A focus is put on facilitating model governance and licensing by improving admin interfaces.

AI capabilities for intelligent solutions

This area covers all AI model capabilities that are newly available to makers to build more intelligent solutions with AI. This includes expanding the breadth of AI capabilities and the integration surfaces across Microsoft where AI Builder is available.
2023 release wave focuses on integrating AI Builder into more product surfaces within Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365. New capabilities like pre-trained models for document processing (document splitter, contract processing, detect personally identifiable information) are also newly available to Power Platform makers.

Automate with intelligent document processing

Intelligent document processing (IDP) capabilities allow makers to capture, transform, and process data from documents:

• Word
• PDF
• scanned documents

Using technologies like computer vision, optical character recognition (OCR), natural language processing (NLP), and machine/deep learning, the extracted data can be analyzed, categorized, transformed, and exported to external systems in an end-to-end process using Power Automate.
