On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women who are shaping industries and breaking barriers. In the world of technology, women continue to drive innovation, lead teams, and inspire change. Diana Vasileva, Group HR Manager at Isystems Group, is one of them. She has built a career in the dynamic world of IT, driven by a passion for collaboration, innovation, and people.
What inspired you and love the most about working in the tech sector?
The most important and motivating factor for me is the people I work with. The tech industry thrives on collaboration, and witnessing diverse minds come together to create impactful solutions is truly inspiring. Technology influences every aspect of our lives, and being part of a sector that drives change is incredibly rewarding.
What skills and qualities do you believe are essential for women aiming for developing career in IT?
Technical skills are critical, but persistence, the ability to multitask, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence really set women apart in IT. These qualities allow them to navigate complex challenges, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and communicate effectively with diverse teams. Women often bring a unique perspective to problem-solving, which can lead to innovative solutions and drive progress in the industry. By leveraging these skills and qualities, women worldwide are not only making significant contributions to IT but are also paving the way for future generations of female tech leaders.
Do you see more women advancing to leadership positions in IT, and what barriers still exist?
The perception of IT as a male-dominated industry is outdated. As an HR leader, I’ve seen how talent, dedication, and expertise define success. Women are increasingly stepping into roles that were once predominantly held by men, shattering stereotypes and proving that they are equally capable in the tech world. I’ve been fortunate to learn from outstanding mentors and colleagues, who have shown me the importance of resilience and continuous learning. It is essential for women to find mentors who can provide guidance and support as they navigate their careers in IT.
If you could give one piece of advice to young women considering a career in IT, what would it be?
To all the girls beginning their career journey I would say, if you are passionate about technology, driven and determined, the IT field offers an exciting and rewarding path. The industry is constantly evolving, presenting endless opportunities for growth and innovation. Have confidence in yourself, seek guidance from mentors and always keep learning. Persistence and self-belief will set you apart.
How can companies and society encourage more girls and young women to pursue IT careers?
Starting with early education and hands-on tech experiences is a good strategy. Companies should partner with schools for internships and workshops. As a society we should focus more on fostering a culture of innovation and inclusivity, offering mentorship, and most important – not forgetting to celebrate achievements to set the fire of inspiration in the next generation.
